A week ago, my sister sent me photos of Yamate Italian Garden
I’ve never been to this place before and my sister told me it is like a secret place in Yokohama. Yokohama, one of Japan’s largest cities is 45 minutes away from Tokyo by train.
Yokohama is a port city, where Commodore Matthew Perry led the “opening” of Japan after they closed their doors from the West for two centuries; only trading with the Chinese and the Dutch. Hence, Yokohama is a city where Westerners have lived for years. And Yamate is where most foreigners were concentrated.
The Church where we went to in Yokohama is located in Yamate, a hilly area (”yama” means “mountain” in Japanese) in Yokohama City and it is also where you can find a foreigner’s cemetery.
Yamate Italian Garden looked familiar but my sister told me they just opened to the public a few years ago. We had our little pictorial wearing our yukatas here..
That’s my brother in-law, Tim with our cutie-pie Olivia
Nancy with her signature pose.. haha
Let me remind you again that this is in Japan. Not your typical pictures of Japan right?
I think this is the main attraction of Yamate Italian Garden
Read on the internet that the Italian consulate was present in the area during the Meiji period.
So the best time to visit Yamate Italian Garden during spring time
No, these are not paper roses..
A secret spot in Japan but I think my sister wouldn’t mind if I tell you to include this in one of the your places to visit in Japan. If blessed to travel to Japan again, for sure I’ll be here too!
