MNLSGN-KV (1)_FINAL

All-in promo fares from as low as P990 are up for grabs now at airasia.com

AirAsia is introducing direct flights from Manila to one of the most vibrant and biggest cities of Vietnam, Ho Chi Minh City, further strengthening the airline’s commitment as an Asean carrier.

AirAsia Philippines CEO Captain Dexter Comendador said, “We are thrilled to announce that we will start servicing direct flights from Manila to Ho Chi Minh in November as part of our commitment to continue bringing the Philippines closer to neighbouring cities within the Asean region.”

To celebrate the announcement, all-in fares from as low as P990 for Manila – Ho Chi Minh route are now available for booking today until 8 October 2017 on airasia.com and the airline’s mobile app.  The introductory promo fares are available for travel period from 17 November 2017 to 21 November 2018.

“AirAsia is the only airline that directly services all ten Asean countries with established operations in the Philippines, Thailand, Indonesia, and Malaysia. Last year, the AirAsia Group carried 13.4 million people within Asean and we aim to continue bringing the region closer together via inter-Asean connectivity,” Comendador added.

AirAsia has been recently recognized for its outstanding performance in the Asean priority integration sector for tourism at the ASEAN Business Awards 2017 held in Manila with Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte personally giving the award to AirAsia Group CEO Tony Fernandes and 11 other winners from different sectors last September 6.

AirAsia services Manila – Ho Chi Minh route with three flights weekly or every Tuesday, Friday, and Sunday.

Vietnam offers travellers an opportunity to discover the country’s tradition that overlaps with French colonial influences and picturesque coastline. A visit first to Ho Chi Minh City (formerly known as ‘Saigon’), is the perfect starting point to explore southern Vietnam. This vibrant city is the centre of commerce and to get a good glimpse of its beauty, it is advisable to seat at a roadside café with a cup of Vietnamese iced coffee or ‘Ca Phe Sua Da’ followed by a stroll to famous architectural marvels such as the Notre Dame Cathedral, Saigon Opera House, Jade Emperor Pagoda and temples.

To appreciate the local culture, travellers can sample a myriad of fresh produce and food offerings from Ba Chieu Market, a local market off the beaten path for the famous baguette sandwich, ‘Banh Mi’ or some ‘Com Tam’, a ‘broken rice’ style dish topped with grilled meat; or go shopping for various types of quality fabric at affordable prices at the famed Ben Thanh Market.  If you have an interest in history, visit The War Remnants museum or the famed Cu Chi tunnels for a glimpse into what life was during the war.

AirAsia has won this year’s Asean Business Award for Priority Integration Sector – Tourism.

The award recognises outstanding performance in the Asean priority integration sector of tourism.

AirAsia Group CEO Tony Fernandes accepted the award on behalf of the company at the Asean Business Awards (ABA) 2017 ceremony held in Solaire Resort and Casino here last night.

The award was presented by Asean Business Advisory Council (BAC) Chairman Joey Concepcion, witnessed by Philippine President Rodrigo Roa Duterte and Philippine Trade Secretary Ramon Lopez.

AirAsia Group CEO Tony Fernandes said, “Asean integration is about people as much as it is about policies. It’s not just about having a community on paper. It’s about experiencing first-hand how others live, it’s about creating new jobs in travel and tourism, it’s about forming new supply chains by connecting places that have never been connected. Air travel does this and more – AirAsia carried 13.4 million people within Asean last year – and we are proud to do our part to bring the region closer together.”

The ABA was created by the Asean BAC in 2007 to recognise outstanding Asean enterprises, serve as a platform to spread information on the Asean Economic Community, and spotlight SMEs that have the potential of becoming global economic players in their respective industries.

In addition to tourism, Priority Integration Sector awards were given for achievements in 11 other sectors – fisheries, electronics, e-Asean/ICT, textiles, logistics, wood-based, rubber, agri-foods, healthcare, automotive and retail.

Also up for grabs were awards for SME excellence, women entrepreneurs, young entrepreneurs and inclusive businesses, as well as the Friend of Asean Award and the Legacy Award.

Leading telecommunications company Globe Telecom has joined the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) in showcasing the beauty of Philippine forests and in encouraging the public to be part of responsible tourism and proactive reforestation.

Globe employees took part in DENR’s Bike.Hike.Plant 2017 tree-planting initiative organized by the Forest Management Bureau to celebrate Arbor Day and the 154th anniversary of the Philippine Forestry Service.  The event was conducted to inspire various stakeholders to take care of the forests as well as widen the network of forestry champions to include bikers and hikers.

The volunteers participated in a 30-km bike and trek activity that runs from the DENR Region 3 Office in Government Center, Maimpis, San Fernando City, Pampanga up to Mt. Arayat National Park. Over 1,000 participants biked around the city and hiked up to the chosen area to plant seedlings of various indigenous and agroforestry tree species.

At the same time, Globe provided Libreng Charging stations during the event to serve everyone who joined the celebration.

“Environmental sustainability is one of the immediate responsibilities of Globe especially in the face of global warming.  Thus, aside from reducing and managing the impact of the company’s business operations on the planet, Globe also invests on environmental protection and partners with various organizations, particularly on reforestation programs to reduce our ecological footprint and mitigate the drastic effects of climate change,” said Yoly Crisanto, Globe SVP for Corporate Communications.

Earlier, Globe volunteers also supported DENR’s Earth Month activities such as the coastal clean up in Las Pinas Paranaque Critical Habitat and Ecotourism Area (LPPCHEA), the mangrove tree planting activity in Calatagan, Batangas, and watershed ecosystem awareness in Norzagaray, Bulacan.

In 2016, Globe has invested P2.371 million on total environmental protection such as reforestation programs, solid waste manage, and hazardous waste disposal and treatment.  It has also donated P1.4 million as initial grant for 13,500 seedlings to non-profit organization Hineleban Foundation which advocates environmental conservation and livelihood development.
