Miniso Haul ⎜ ₱1000 Budget

Shopping is one guilty pleasure in Japan. Not just for souvenirs or designer items, there are many things to buy  – most of them are just too cute not to buy or ou only realize you need them when you see them in stores. From hyaku shops ( 100 yen shops) to those nooks in malls filled with dainty stuff, Japanese are good in creating products to fit your lifestyle.

No need to travel to Japan or in other countries to enjoy this kind of shopping. Get to know Miniso, a Japanese designer brand with more than 1000 stores globally including stores in United Arab Emirates and Australia. Locally, they are now everywhere including Miniso Iloilo.

Commencing their arrival in the Visayas, Miniso opened their 11th store in SM City Iloilo last May 3.

The duo behind Miniso is Japanese designer Miyake Jyunya and Chinese entrepreneur Ye Guofu. Seems like the perfect blend in creating a fast-rising global designer brand.

The ₱1000 Challenge

People are expecting themselves to spend a lot of money in Miniso. Well, who can blame them? Miniso offers affordable items mostly priced at Php99.  I tried to restrain myself and tested on what I can buy in Miniso within my Php1000 budget during the VIP shopping.

I went shopping with my 2 boys, so my haul is pretty much kids and girly stuff. Here they are.

Multifunctional Cosmetics and Jewellery Organizer, Php99 ( make up and tools, not included).

I like that it has a bigger space to put my rings and accessories. The price is also 100% cheaper compared to the previous make up organizer I bought.

Lady’s Romantic Kerchief, Php149 and Sunglasses, 199.

These are just some of travel essentials you can buy at Miniso. The kerchief can be worn around your neck for that Parisian look for your travel #OOTD. I like the sunglasses’ fit. With its affordable price tag, you don’t have to worry if you lost them along your trip or got sand scratches.

Dual Layer Fruit Bowl, Php 149

Sorry, I’m a mom and I cook -sometimes. This is my compulsive shopping “damage” for that day. I like this because it is smaller than what I was using at home.

Now what my boys picked for themselves.

Kid2 got this Flame Rider Transformation Toy, Php149

Kid1 chose Wind Up 3DPuzzle Military Tank, Php99.

As a gift for accompanying me, I got them Building Blocks, Php199.

Checking out our items at the cashier, we got the total amount of Php1,043! Ouch! But hey, I didn’t bring any calculator, neither was I mentally computing our haul. You can forgive me for the Php43 excess, right? 😉

For ₱1000 ( and 43 pesos!), I bought seven items from Miniso Iloilo.

There are more to shop in Miniso from BB creams to Bluetooth keyboard and I’m going back there! To have a glimpse of what they offer, check out my Facebook page.  Miniso Iloilo is located at the Second Floor of SM City Iloilo ( near the Food Hall).

Happy Shopping!

Make peace with sensitive skin with The Body Shop’s new Almond Milk & Honey bath and skin care range. Enriched with Community Trade almond oil from the Alicante region of Spain, and Community Trade honey from the UNESCO Sheka rainforest in Ethiopia, this caring new range is as kind to the environment as it is your skin.

Our almond oil comes from almond nuts grown by expert farmers in the Alicante region of Spain. To collect the precious honey sourced from the Sheka rainforest biosphere reserve, The Body Shop works with the “bee whisperers” of Beza Mar, a group dedicated to improving the livelihood of Ethiopian beekeeping communities and maintaining their traditional, natural way of working with the bees. This helps support the sustainable use of the forest by providing a steady income to local people who might otherwise be forced to agriculture that could lead to deforestation.

Alongside with its campaign “Make love not war with sensitive skin”, The Body Shop also wants people to embrace sensitivity, to show kindness and empathy to all the sensitive issues seen in social media. For this, it has selected Almond Milk & Honey ambassadors who give support to the brand’s values through social media.

Almond Milk & Honey ambassadors who are lending their voice to be optimistic to all things sensitive are Stacy and Danah Gutierrez, who promote embracing your own body shape; Jigs Mayuga who has a passion for the Makeup Industry and CrossFit shows that it’s okay to embrace femininity and masculinity at the same time; Chinchin Obcena who stands up positively in her blogs despite having its fair share of bashers; and Edcell Ched who experienced a social media bashing but chose to keep a smiling face. They are asking you, to follow them, to make love and not war.

Made for sensitively dry skin, The Body Shop’s new range starts from bath essentials such as the Almond Milk & Honey Cleansing Bar, Gently Exfoliating Cream Body Scrub, Bath Milk, and Shower Cream. The, there are products for your after-bath skin care routine- the Almond Milk & Honey Body Lotion, Soothing & Restoring Body Butter, and the Calming & Protecting Hand Cream.

The Body Shop now accepts SM Advantage Card for points earning and redemption, SM and Sodexo premium pass in all The Body Shop stores nationwide.

The Body Shop was founded in 1976 by Dame Anita Roddick in Littlehampton, England. The beauty brand pioneered corporate activism and was built on a philosophy that business can be a force for good. With its brand expression, Beauty with Heart, the company continues to be focused on five core values; Against Animal Testing, Support Community Fair Trade, Activate Self Esteem, Defend Human Rights and Protect The Planet. All products are created using the finest ingredients sourced from the four corners of the globe, which are not tested on animals and are 100% vegetarian. The Body Shop has been in the Philippine market for eighteen years with over 55 strategically located stores nationwide.

“Today, our commitment is stronger than ever; to enrich, not exploit. For us, this means enriching people as well as our planet, its biodiversity and resources. We are committed to working fairly with our farmers and suppliers and helping communities to thrive. Our products enrich, but never make false promises and are never tested on animals. We are proud to be original, irreverent and campaign for what’s right; together we can do it. Enrich Not Exploit. It’s in our hands.” –The Body Shop

Educational App Brings Filipinos a Step Closer to Their Dreams

For Danica Rose Garay, shifting careers from teaching to being a doctor is not easy. For one, she has to take and pass the National Medical Admission Test (NMAT), and she doesn’t have the luxury of time to enroll in a review center as it tend to be expensive. Self-study is her only viable option.

Zookal was like manna from heaven for Danica Rose. With Zookal’s help, she is now reviewing for free for her upcoming NMAT exam.

“I find reviewing with Zookal is so much easier. Questions are categorized so I can go straight to those relevant for me. The immediate response from the app, whether the answer is right or wrong, and the accompanying explanation are very helpful features,” says Danica Rose.

“Zookal also changed my study habits. Since I carry my phone anywhere and anytime, I can study in between tasks, or when commuting. There’s no need to lug around books, and wads of papers as review materials, I just click on the app, and start reviewing,” she added.

Criselda, who’s preparing for the Licensure Examination for Teachers, says reviewing while working is no longer an impossible task.

“Zookal helped me a lot in such a way that it gave me a chance to review everywhere. I was working while preparing for the LET so it was really convenient for me. I could just open the app and read during my free time at the workplace. I could even do it during my commute time. It’s amazing!” says Criselda.

“I actually recommended Zookal to some of my friends already. I told them they need not to pay for an expensive review center to prepare for a test. All they need is to download this impressive app. Zookal is an amazing tool to help people achieve their dreams, I am just so grateful it was developed,” adds Criselda.

Embracing technology

HR practitioner and Sunlife Advocate Aaron Hinlo-Roca handles Internship Relations and is a community service partner of universities in regions 7 and 8.

He required incoming interns to pass the Civil Service examination and be eligible to work for government. They reviewed for the exam for two weeks using the app on a dry run, and he saw that it was effective as an online learning resource.

“It was very interactive. While we also used books for the review, the app was very helpful. Zookal revolutionizes studying, you just need data connection and you can learn anytime, anywhere. We must embrace technologies like this. It is timely and relevant not only for students but also for professors, and practitioners like me,” says Aaron.

Wish list

One thing Aaron wishes for is an offline version of Zookal so students without connectivity can still use it for their learning.

Meanwhile, having administered admission tests as a teacher, Danica Rose would like to see more of practice questions involving abstract reasoning.

“This type of test measures the spatial and the IQ of the test taker in predicting outcome. Also, you can master it through constant practice. It’s quite hard to make but I know it will help a lot of test takers. For the tips I guess, they could put videos and mnemonics styles to cater learners who have diverse learning styles,” Danica Rose suggests.

She also wants to see a “timer” feature in the app so one can easily evaluate how fast one can answer the questions and challenge to do it faster next time. It makes for good practice since almost all exams are timed.

In its latest update, Zookal already has a timer feature that allows just that.

Zookal for all

If you think Zookal is relevant only for those who are reviewing for exams, you are so wrong.

“I recommended it to my friends and family members to help them boost their intelligence in their field of expertise as well as in other areas of learning,” says Danica Rose.

“It may be an online reviewer but it is never boring using the app. My friends and I use it for fun just like the popular TV show “Who Wants to be a Millionaire”. With Zookal, learning is never boring,” adds Aaron.

100,000 Filipinos and counting

Since its launched in September, Zookal has now grown to one hundred thousand (100,000) users in less than 2 months time. “There are now more than 100,000 Filipinos closer to their dreams; that alone assures me and my co-founders that we are doing an excellent job in doing good for the future of Filipino students and professionals through Zookal,” said Jon Tse, Zookal co-founder.

Proposal Season Comes a-Ringin’

“DULL November brings the blast, then the leaves are whirling fast,” says Sara Coleridge in her poem “The Months.”

But, is November really a dull month? Dull, maybe, during the author’s time in 19th century England, but not anymore in this day and age when people look forward to a lot of exciting events slated in the penultimate month of the year.

November is when we observe All Saints’ Day, celebrate Halloween, enjoy the semestral break, and start shopping for the Holidays.

Unknown to many, November is also the start of the Proposal Season – the season for bachelors to get down on their knee and pop the million-dollar “will you marry me?” question.

If you’re among the many wannabe husbands planning to propose to your dearly beloved this Proposal Season, you might first want to consider looking for the most important thing for this historical event – the engagement ring.

If you’re among the many wannabe husbands planning to propose to your dearly beloved this Proposal Season, you might first want to consider looking for the most important thing for this historical event – the engagement ring.

Picking out the best requires much thinking, but a jeweler like Odysseus Suarez can help a guy out in choosing the perfect engagement ring for his bride and make the proposal event a milestone to be treasured forever.

“The Proposal Season is upon us and we are encouraging those who are planning to propose this year or early next year to start looking for their engagement rings the soonest possible time,” said Mylene Suarez, Odysseus’ better half. “We get a lot of orders during this season, so it is best to order earlier.”

Suarez offers a wide range of engagement rings to choose from. Wannabe grooms can have a diamond ring for as low as Php15,000 and as high as one cares to spend.
Clients can also have their short messages of love engraved inside the ring for free, added Mrs. Suarez.

But should the process of picking out the right ring proved very difficult for the ones proposing, Odysseus Suarez is also prepared to make it much easier for them with a few suggestions on how to pass the burden to their partners while at the same time dropping a clue.

Interested to avail of Suarez’s assistance may visit his website at or drop by his nearest showrooms.

Odysseus Suarez’s unique and highest quality engagement rings are available at Suarez Wedding Rings’ showrooms in Ayala Center Cebu, SM City Cebu, SM Mall of Asia, SM Fairview, Gateway Mall in Cubao, SM Clark and Olongapo, SM Iloilo, SM Lanang in Davao City, and Ayala Centrio in Cagayan de Oro.

Launching this Fall/Winter 2016, Chuck II Leads Converse Footwear Against the Wet Weather

With Canvas, Leather and Rubber

Converse is taking wet weather head-on this season, combining classic sneaker designs with premium weatherized features, with the debut of the Fall/Holiday 2016 Converse Counter Climate Footwear Collection. The new collections provide the necessary tools to combat the climate shifts while emphasizing essential weather-beating benefits. The innovative sneaker collections feature a bold mix of colors and materials including water repellent canvas, rubber and leather, and waterproof neoprene. Divided into three unique categories: Shield Canvas, Leather and Rubber– these collections are intended to stand up against the unpredictable inclement weather.

Each sneaker has been treated to help tackle rainy weather while maintaining comfort and style. The Converse Counter Climate Shield Canvas sneakers have been given a DWR (durable water repellant) treatment, standing guard as the first line of defense against the rain.

For the holiday season, both new and time-honored styles endure the harsh elements with the Counter Climate Rubber collection. These rubber sneakers are winter-ready with water resistant material and heat retention.

Converse Chuck Taylor All Star II Shield Canvas

Designed for the Chuck Taylor lover who can’t give up their Chucks no matter what the weather, the new Converse Chuck Taylor All Star II Shield Canvas sneaker combines the enhanced comfort of a Lunarlon sockliner, non-slip padded tongue and micro-suede lining with materials that can also withstand most climate challenges. Converse has added a water repellent Shield Canvas and a gusseted tongue, as well as removing the medial eyelets to make a durable sneaker that is ready for wet and rainy adventures. The sneakers also feature reflective heel webbing and barrel laces for added visibility in low light environments.

Available colors: Black/Volt, Black/Reflective, White/Lava, Black

Suggested retail price: Php 4,550

Converse Chuck Taylor All Star II Rubber

Another iteration of the Chuck II will also be releasing this fall – the Converse Chuck Taylor All Star II Rubber. By incorporating a transparent rubber overlay on the iconic Chuck II silhouette, this allows for the sneaker to breathe while repelling water and protecting feet from the elements. The sneaker includes all the features and benefits of the Chuck II such as a Lunarlon sockliner and a non-slip padded tongue, while adding a beautifully crafted dimensional canvas for breathability, micro-perforated leather lining for comfort, and a heat reflecting barrier at the footbed for warmth.

Suggested retail price: Php 5,430

Converse Cons One Star Shield Canvas

This season, the Converse Cons Star also receives the Shield Canvas treatment, combining the enhanced comfort of a Lunarlon sockliner with a lightweight and breathable canvas that can also withstand the rain. Added features include a gusseted tongue and removed medial eyelets allowing the sneaker to tolerate wet environments. Traction rubber has also been incorporated to the outsole, providing additional grip.

Converse Jack Purcell Signature Twill Shield Canvas

The Converse Jack Purcell Signature collection introduces a thicker Shield Canvas with a water repellent finish, and a tri-color reflective heel stay. A mesh lining backing the shield canvas regulates temperatures across a range of climates while still keeping the sneaker breathable. Reflective laces add flare while a gusseted tongue construction will prevent water from seeping into the dual pod Nike Zoom Air insole technology.

Available colors: Inked, Natural

Suggested retail price: Php 5,590

Converse Jack Purcell Signature M-Series

This fall, Converse introduces a high top silhouette combined with Counter Climate Shield Canvas. Warm, durable and water-repellent, it delivers all-day, on-the-go comfort. Bye Bye Back Pain with BackJoy SitSmart™

SitSmart_Posture Plus_Red_With Pkg (1)

Lately I’ve been complaining of back pain and there are two culprits – obesity and prolonged sitting. As a freelance writer, I spend most of my time sitting on my desk.

It was a pleasure to know that there are great products ( I don’t like those bracket suits) that can help me with my back pain. The product is BackJoy SitSmart™, a posture product that helps us sit better, easing back pain. Together with bloggers and media, we got a casual meet-up with BackJoy team headed by Ms. Donna Chavez at C’s by L’Fisher.

“Necessity is the mother of invention. “

BackJoy’s blockbuster product, SitSmart™ was invented out of love of a son for his father. Preston Willingham invented a    ” sitting device” in 1985 to ease his father’s back pain after they went for a golf trip. As a sculptor, he impressively made something that eventually became one of the most sought-after posture products today.

This is how it looks like when place on a chair. The device can hold up to 300lbs. It also comes in smaller sizes for kids.

The first thing that you’ll do once you sit on it, is to sit properly – back straight. If you did ballet or yoga, this is one thing you will do too – voluntarily aligning your spine to sit up straight. We all do this – slouching during prolonged sitting.

BackJoy SitSmart™ is also great for long travel, especially if you are driving, when you don’t have the luxury to adjust your sitting position while behind the wheel. Another reason why I want to have this device for our road trips.

Good news, BackJoy is now in Iloilo! Iloilo is the 14th destination of BackJoy Philippines. We checked out their kiosk at SM City Iloilo – near Harbor City and Payless at the mall extension.

As you can see, BackJoy carries different products like neck pillows and even footwear. You can now add BackJoy on your list of travel gears.  I also like the kneeler- great when attending mass at my kids’ school- the first kneeling product I know.

Additional BackJoy product lines include:

  • StandRight Flips, Bliss and Zen shoes
  • SleepSound Standard, Travel and In-Flight pillows
  • Posture Gear: Kneeler, StressRoller

Availability BackJoy products are available online at and in these stores:

SM Megamall Kiosk
SM Mall of Asia Kiosk
SM North Edsa Annex
SM City Cebu
SM Fairview
SM Aura Premier
SM City Marikina
SM Seaside Cebu
SM City Iloilo

Product Feature: GT Cosmetic’s Papaya Lotion

Few days ago, I received these goodies from GT Cosmetics. GT Cosmetics is a Cebu-based manufacturer of beauty products from whitening creams to anti-aging soaps.

I  first used their product, GT Carrot Lotion, when I went home to Cebu last Christmas. I can’t help but try it because it is something different. My gift also included carrot soap, but I shared it to a friend.

For this blog post, I would like to review GT Papaya Lotion. GT Papaya Lotion is a 3-in-1 Whitening Formula. It whitens, moisturises, and protects your skin from the sun.

I love products that use papaya, not just for their whitening power but for their moisturizing effects to our skin. Papaya has been used by our lolas to naturally lighten their skin.

This is one of the latest products from GT Cosmetics – a whitening Papaya Lotion with SPF 40. GT Papaya Lotion has enzymes from pure Papaya extracts that help reveal new and healthy skin cells. Collagen as we all know combats the signs of aging.

This is one of the few products that deals with our issues in using sunblock. Most sunblock lotions are too thick and makes our skin dry. Not this one. GT Cosmetics Papaya Lotion makes you adhere to the rule of using sunblock everyday.

I have used this product for five days now and so far, here are the things I love about GT Papaya Lotion:

1. The smell is not overpowering. I love fragrances but some products make me sneeze. You can hardly smell its scent, which is great for those with sensitive to perfumes and fragrances.

2.  Its tube container makes it handy. It is also spill-proof. Thus, you can bring this along in your bag as well as perfect for your beach trip since this is also a sunblock.

3. My skin easily absorbed the lotion given its sunblock formulation ( which tends to make lotions thicker). Just apply ample amount and it doesn’t leave any white marks.

4. Budget-friendly and locally-made.

You can buy GT Cosmetics products in Watson’s, beauty departments of various malls like SM, Gaisano, Robinson’s Supermarket, ShopWise, Mercury Drug, among others.

Have you tried GT Papaya Lotion already? Share your thoughts!

Thanks for reading!
