If you’re a beauty junkie like me, for sure you have heard about argan oil. Argan oil produced from argan trees ( of course) only grows in southern region of Morroco. This oil is rich in blend of antioxidants, vitamin A and E, polyunsaturated fat, and essential fatty acid – essential for hair and skincare. It’s no wonder, argan oil are used in many beauty products.

I have heard about it for many years and I used to find it expensive but price was my last issue. It was hard to find in the Philippines, much more if you live in city outside Metro Manila. Luckily, many beauty brands now carry. I’m glad that Nail-a-holics also carries other over the counter beauty products including Argan Oil.
That said, here’s an even better insider tip that is just in time for the holidays: you can get a free 50 ml bottle for every purchase of one 100 ml Argan Oil bottle at any Nailaholics Nail Salon and Spa branch.
Each 100 ml argan oil bottle is priced at Php 1,390. Now you get to take home more with the Great Argan Sale, giving you a savings of Php 790 which is the original price of your free 50 ml argan oil bottle.
You better hurry though because this exclusive promotion runs only from November 28 to Dec 12, 2017.
It’s a small price to pay for a product that can serve as your night time moisturizer, a skin toner, makeup remover, whole body moiturizer, leave-in hair conditioner and can also be a cure for acne, stretchmarks and razor bumps and burns.
“It’s important to note though that you get the real deal. So be sure to get it from somewhere that has a longstanding reputation of reliability and quality. It’s the concentration of argan oil that allows you to receive all its benefits, so make sure you’re getting it from a brand that can be trusted when they say that they are giving you a bottle with no artificial preservatives,” shares Lorraine Baterina, Brand Manager of Nailaholics Nail Salon and Spa.
Creative Director and Founder Daiki Suzuki of Engineered Garments set to release special edition CONVERSE ONE STAR
Converse and Engineered Garmentshave come together to introduce a new collaborative line of One Star sneakers. Engineered Garments Creative Director and Founder, Daiki Suzuki issues a collection that reflects his personal journey and relationship with Converse and plays on his affinity to reinvent and reengineer, while keeping with the shoe’s iconic look.
The Converse x Engineered Garments One Star collection is available in four iterations of the classic One Star logo including the Star Chevron, Stars & Bars, and two variations for the customary star. Suzuki recalls a specific era for each style all representing silhouettes of his personal favorites from Converse. The collection is available in four premium leather colorways including Olive, Navy, White, and Black. Aligned with Suzuki’s ethos of conceptual design through experience, the collection provides a lense on Converse’sdaring versatility through the years.
Founder, Daiki Suzuki says of the collaboration, “When approached with the project to work with Converse the idea came from wanting to tell a bit of the history of the company, first and foremost. Chuck Taylor, for us is a perfect shoe that we weren’t sure we could add or subtract to, its remained almost unchanged all this time. The One Star or rather the iterations after the “Leather All Star” was a canvas we thought could be mined to create something new.
“For Nepenthes/Engineered Garments, we have played around with the idea of twisting ideas together, creating negative/positive’s in one pair of shoes. In attempting to create something new, we thought it would be best to start the relationship by revisiting the past and melding the first four (after that “Leather All Star”) models into one. Doing them all at once will have memories for some, seeing them come out when they did and for others it will be a lesson on how things can change subtly over time. For myself it represents my youth, memories I hold dear.”
The sneakers are leather-lined with an Engineered Garments branded logo illustrated on the shoe’s sockliner. Each pair are housed in Engineered Garments premium packaging with tonal cotton laces.
The debut Engineered Garments Converse One Star collection is exclusively available in Commonwealth, SM Aura for Php 5,990.

SM Supermalls, the premier shopping mall chain in the country traces its roots to selling shoes. Although the company has grown phenomenally since Mr. Henry Sy, Sr. opened his first store in 1958, it continues to expand its footwear legacy as it aims to serve more customers in more communities around the Philippines.
With this, comes Simply Shoes, an affiliate of SM Retail, envisioned to be the family shoe store in local communities. Here, one can find SM in-house brands like the iconic Parisian line, as well as Milanos, Salvatore Mann, Sugar Kids, and Tough Kids. Global brands like Chicco and Vans are also available, as are popular local brands like Islander, World Balance and Hawk. Simply Shoes brings well-love brands of SM to communities where SM Mall haven’t reached ( yet).
Simply Shoes opened its first branch at Waltermart Tanauan, Batangas last September 2014. Today, Simply Shoes has 27 branches across the country: from as far north as Savemore La Trinidad in Benguet to as far south as Citymall Tagum in Davao del Norte. It aims to have 100 stores by 2018.
True to its core as a family store, Simply Shoes officially launches its new brand ambassadors, actress Cristine Reyes-Khatibi, husband mixed martial artist turned actor Ali Khatibi and adorable daughter Amarah.
The young family loves doing things together. Despite their work – Christine’s television commitments and Ali’s competitions – they make it a point to take time to go out together, taking family trips together, and celebrating milestones together. One of the things they also enjoy is shopping together at Simply Shoes.
“Simply Shoes is the perfect brand for families,” says Christine. “It’s the one stop shop for all family members.” The young family, likes “the styles of the shoes, the assortment, and the fact that they are so comfortable to wear.” More than that, “it gives us value for money for the whole family.”
Cristine also shared how she loves the Ladies Shoes section because “it has a lot of different shoe styles that you can chose from. We also like the specials sections that offers value for money shoes. — 2 pairs for only P499.75.”

No, I’m not talking about Brazilian wax. Not yet. I’m talking about the usual waxing procedures like underarm and legs.
Hair used to be a big part of human body. Body hair was our natural coat for cold weather, thick eyebrows against dust and sweat. But with modernity, we practically don’t need our human hair that much. More than cosmetics, getting rid of our excess hair has become part of grooming.
I’ve tried waxing once using a OTC product marketed for home use but it was a total disaster that I succumbed to the big innovation of the 1700s-1800s – the razor. Tweezing doesn’t work for me and I think it is not advisable as it causes ingrown hair. Besides, I certainly don’t have time to pluck! So I was enslave by Mr. Razor from my eyebrows to my legs for decades…not until Hey Sugar!came.
I’ll never shave again
Hey Sugar! Waxing Salon is named after sugar-based products they used especially for their wax. One of the reasons why most people don’t wax especially in the Philippines is we get intimidated by the thought of waxing. And then the usual question, “ Does it hurt?“.
No it doesn’t. Especially for kikay girls who have been martyrs for the so-called ” tiis ganda“, waxing and even eyebrow threading is painless. The decor of Hey Sugar Waxing Salon strips away any notion that waxing salons are house of horrors. Pretty right?
A post shared by Valerie Caulin 🇵🇭 (@writervalerie) on
Our friends from Hey Sugar Waxing Salon invited me along with my fellow Iloilo bloggers to get waxed. The dainty interiors I think helps in settling the nervous nerves of waxing virgins that you’ll be looking forward to your service.
The salon has private rooms where I had all of my services – underarms, legs, eyebrow threading, and eyelash perming. Yeah, I totally indulged! This is no torture room. I haven’t heard anyone screaming from the other rooms either.
These chairs are for eyebrow threading, facial hair waxing, etc.
One of the most popular services offered by Hey Sugar!, all girls should have a regular appointment for eyebrow threading. I know the new trend of microblading, I would love to have that but it is really costly.
I have mastered forming my eyebrow and maintenance like eyebrow threading accentuates the shape.
Painless and the shape was different. I shape my brows with a small eyebrow razor and even trim it with small scissors but the shape that threading gave was different. I took this photo after my threading with my eyelash perming – which is a another service to try!
A post shared by Valerie Caulin 🇵🇭 (@writervalerie) on
Hey Sugar eyelash perming means I don’t need an eyelash curler. One application of my trusted mascara and viola! Thick, ready-to-party lashes. I will write a Hey Sugar Eyelash perming review next time.
Going back to eyebrow threading, I love how my brows looked that I went out without using my eyebrow pencil. Natural kilay is “lifer”! Unpainted eyebrows, made me feel that I looked younger. 😀
If you really want to focus on your brows, check your nearest Happy Brows.
Stripping it off
Those unwanted hair – underarm and even the legs. Do girls still pluck their kilikili hair? I’m cringing right now. Sorry. It is not advisable, ladies and what a waste of time!I know the benefits of waxing over shaving and with Hey Sugar.
I know I will be in good hands. NSFW alert!
Before your appointment, let it grow. I know, it is yucky with bushy armpits, but it will be less painful ( for those with low pian tolerance) and easier for the staff to strip off. The girls were meticulous, after waxing, they thread the hair that was left. I love watching my kilikili after!
Now for the legs. I’m not into shaving my legs because, luckily, my strands are not thick. But I tried it at Hey Sugar! for smoother legs.
Try the hot wax. It is not hot but lukewarm. The cold wax they say is for those with tiny hair but I think cold wax takes longer. Again, not painful. The white substance is baby powder. They apply it to see the hair. Again, they thread any unstripped hair.
It was day of pampering. Waxing at Hey Sugar and had my nails and foot spa at Nailaholics that same afternoon. Oh, I was such a happy mama!
It was weeks ago since I had my waxing and I did see thinner hair growing back. I felt less of a monkey. hehe.I’ll be back on my next waxing appointment this week and I can’t wait to be hair-free again.
Head to your nearest Hey Sugar! Waxing Salon now. For those in Iloilo, visit them at theLower Ground Floor of SM City Iloilo ( new wing), beside Nailaholics. Ms. Rachelle and her team will take care of you.

Do you know why moms flock every salon in town? More than beauty, salons provide us with temporary respite from the hustle and bustle of motherhood. From hair to nails, these salons are sanctuaries and retreat spaces for us.
A nice manicure and pedicure is a lovely treat and we are lucky that these services are affordable in the Philippines. However, these services are not regulated especially when it comes to hygiene. I had my own experience of enduring an excruciating ingrown in my big toe from a bad service and heard horror stories of clients getting fungal infections from dirty tools.
Thus, you have to choose more than a nail expert but a trusted name in the industry. Find a nail salon with a name they themselves take pride and cherish to stay on top of the industry hereby providing nothing but the best from hygiene to over-all experience.
With almost 10 years of experience under their belt, nail.a.holics is no doubt the country’s go-to-urban nail and spa destination. Finally, the nail expert has arrived in Iloilo with their spacious and Hamptons-themed nail salon at the Lower Ground Level of SM City Iloilo.
The trademark interior of nail.a.holics
You will love the space. Even if you are beside someone else, you don’t feel someone is trespassing your personal space. If you are with your bff, mom or spouse, this is your best spot.
With freelance writing, kids, and a spouse who often goes on out-of-town business trips, pampering sessions are things I can’t say no. Because, hey I deserve it!
” Your hands and feet never take a day off so take care of them” – Tammy Taylor
nail.a.holics offers more than manicure, pedicure, and foot spa. This is the advantage of going to a nail salon rather than the generic beauty salon as they specialize in nails. When you visit your nearest nail.a.holics branch or check out their website, you will be impressed with the different options when it comes to services and packages that will suit your specific needs.
I picked Lush Lagoon, a package of manicure, pedicure, and foot spa with foot massage. A big advantage of going to nail.a.holics is their staff – well-trained and professionals. My nail technicians were Anjil and Rechel.
It has been eons since I had a foot spa, you can just imagine the callus I had. The hand massage was soothing for me who types all day. At this nail salon, they use a Korean brand nail polish and for a small additional fee, you can have OPI nail lacquer.
Always look for the steriliser in every nail salon you go to. I like how nail.a.holics show you that they are sterilizing the exact tools they will use for your service.
I chose OPI for my nail polish. Next time, I will try their gel manicure and write a separate review. And maybe not very soon, I will try nail art – I never tried this nail trend.
My package took an hour and a half and it was soothing. Even if they didn’t turn off the lights, the seats were soft and I truly had a quick nap and relaxed my busy mind. I took this photo while I had my leg waxed at Hey Sugar.
As a one-stop shop for anything about nails, you can purchase and use other products like Zoya, famous for being a formaldehyde-free polish.
Other products you can buy at nail.a.holics are these product line of Argan Oil.
Thank you nail.a.holics for the pampering time and for the beautiful nails. It is hard to find a nail salon you can trust and I’m glad you are here in Iloilo.

Let me start this post by saying that all photos for this article are not mine. Hence, what you see above is not me ( I wish!). It’s not easy nor polite to take photos while I’m having my service. Thank you Spa Riviera for letting me use your images.
Motherhood is not easy. It has been said millions of times with the same message. We juggle a lot of things from taking care of the kids, keeping a home, and earning a living. We try to be the best worker, mother, or wife that we forget to become women. We fail to give some time for ourselves, to take a pause and recharge.
I wish all women can prioritize themselves before others. To all mothers out there, girl, you have to take care of yourself before you take charge over others.
There are many ways to have some me-time and one of the most common is a trip to the spa.
“A beautiful day at the spa is what I call heaven on Earth”
Women need to recharge and what better way to do it than with a good spa service. I came across the quote but I can’t find the exact author. Living in Iloilo, it was a quest looking for a good spa. I found one, though but it was a little bit pricey for me and I can’t enjoy their service anytime I want to. Others, the service was not good and you know nothing is worst than a bad massage.
Thank goodness for Spa Riviera. Everyone knows about Spa Riviera, if I am right, it is one of the first spas in the city and still one of the trusted name when it comes to getting the best massage in Iloilo.
From their main branch in General Luna Street, the spa now has 3 other branches – Spa Riviera Mandurriao, Spa Riviera Jaro, and Spa Riviera SM City.
Spa Riviera treated me for a relaxing afternoon with their Gayuma Package – their signature Gayuma Massage ( hot stone) with Facial- way back last December. What a perfect time for pampering. Just what I needed hustling kids’ exams, Christmas parties, packing for our trip, and not to mention my activities and events. Hectic.
Just last week, I invited my husband to join me for a couple-time. We needed it too. I waited for two visits before writing this to give more weight to my spa day narrative.
Just like my previous visit, I signed up for their Gayuma Massage.
I love the hot stone massage. There is something with heat that it heals your tired body. This is one of the reasons why I love ofuro so much. Heat relaxes me.
The therapists at Spa Riviera are professionals. Their receptionist like Ms. May, is chic and efficient.
Spa Riviera has the perfect setting to let everyone enjoy a good massage and treatment. No fancy spa music. Everything is hygienic. Customers are there to enjoy and relax.
Spa Riviera also has a sauna but I didn’t try it yet. Maybe next time.
A piece of Bali
After so many years serving the public, the spa’s General Luna branch was renovated into a little Bali, inspired from Spa Riviera’s owner, Mrs. Marie “Babes” Wharton’s trip to the island. It made the spa more relaxing from the hues to the tropical flowers.
Such renovation is a treat to know how a spa occupying a building in the city center is now like a secret hideaway with its distressed painting, little thatched roofing materials, and a bowl of flowers like kalachuchi. Come inside and your senses are automatically prepped for a nice spa time.
I can sense that Mrs Wharton, who by the way has launched her English pastry business ( you can enjoy her English tea and pastries at the lobby of the spa), has a knack for design. The interior though Balinese inspired, is not overdone.
It’s impressive to know that Iloilo has a charming spa within the city proper that everyone can drop by. It is conveniently located that you can just enjoy a massage before sleeping or have a facial before picking up your kids in school – now with a glowing skin even without make up.
Bring the spa home
Another treat from Spa Riviera is their own Gayuma Massage Oil and Ylang-Ylang Essential Oil for you to enjoy a nice massage at home. You can get this pair for only 280Php in all Spa Riviera branches. It is also a nice gift idea.
I’m looking forward for a year of pampering at Spa Riviera. You too deserve it, enjoy the spa’s various services. Enjoy as your me-time or bond over with your friends or loved ones. Spa Riviera is open from 10am till 11pm.
For more information visit their Facebook page or call (033) 509 0209.
Maybe it’s because of my work as a freelance writer or my distaste towards crowd, but I’m an frequent online shopper. I love browsing products online than checking them in racks and stores. Though I confess not leaving a mall without some purchases, online shopping gives me more freedom, convenience, and savings. Living outside Metro Manila, it means that some of our selections and collections are not that complete. That’s the reason more people from the province prefer online shopping.
When it comes to beauty sites, I have discovered BeautyMNL, a beauty site where Filipinas like me finally has an online destination to pick and shop for beauty products from skincare to travel accessories. Gratitude goes to BeautyMNL team for letting me try their site and shop.
My BeautyMNL Loot
While most beauty site sells expensive beauty products, you will love the BeautyMNL carries affordable products that you can have for yourself or as gifts. Here is my loot..
I shopped for products that I can use for my travels, because there is no reason to look less pretty even while on the road. Let me introduce my beauty picks from the site!
I can’t live without Japanese beauty products and Boiré is a trusted name when it comes to skincare. Bioré Face Milk is a non-sticky skincare product with SPF 50 that I can easily put in my travel kit. Same goes with Bioré Cleansing Oil Cotton Facial Sheets that easily wipes my make up, saving me from bringing my make up remover liquid bottles. The facial sheets is also great when traveling on the road to quick freshening up.
My ultimate travel tip for beauty junkies? Bring multi-purpose products like Skin Genie’s Lip & Cheek Stain. It is small that I can take even in my small pouch and the color fits any skin tone. Plus, it is very affordable. Check out the site and you’ll be surprised how much it really costs.
I love make up but I can live without painting my whole face – except for lip color and brows. The nice thing about BeautyMNL is they carry a lot of Maybelline products and you know how inexpensive Maybelline products are.
It’s been years that I “graduated” from Maybelline because I want something more bold and long-lasting but I think the company now evolves to provide long-lasting product like this Cream Brow Pencil. I only use Japanese brow pencil for the color and long-lasting qualities and surprisingly, this Maybelline Cream Brow Pen is long lasting! I’m glad I stumbled on this affordable product because I don’t think I can spot this in stores.
Matte lipstick is a hit these days and today’s trend lip color is about magenta and burgundy. I love this lipstick from Maybelline, colours survive after a sumptuous meal. It smells good and unlike other matte lipstick, it is non-drying.
Shopping with BeautyMNL
Shopping online with BeautyMNL was a breeze and if I was to give a BeautyMNL review, I will give it a high rating. The site is easy to navigate and the products are well presented with prices and even reviews for meticulous shoppers.
Shopping online can be tricky for some due to the number of products. To trim it out, check out their ” New Arrivals” or ” Best Sellers” page. Let me share that I was done shopping in a flash.
I received my package in 5 business days; for those living in Metro Manila, they will ship the next business day. The package arrive well-sealed and bubble-wrapped. If you are concerned about shipping costs, the site offers frequently offer free shipping, so better check the site regularly to avail their promo.
For now, I will be inviting you to join their monthly selfie contest called, #selfieMNL and you can win a Printster polaroid of your pretty face and a PHP200 BeautyMNL GC. To join, click here for the complete details.
