How to Choose the Right Bra for You

Brassiere or simply “bra” is not just a piece of garment to protect our modesty along with shapewears such as those shapers from Woman First Shapewear. It also supports our little twin girls as you do different activities. Wearing a bra also helps in concealing some bulges (read:back fat). However, studies have confirmed that approximately 80% of women wear an incorrect bra size.

Do you know that wearing the wrong bra size will not only result to an aesthetic problems like wardrobe malfunctions, but can pose discomfort and problems to you body? Back pain, incorrect posture and other discomforts are caused by wearing the wrong bra.

Many women even think that the reason for this discomfort is the size of their breasts (in the case of women with large measures) and it really is not like that, or at least not completely. Wearing the right fit can even prevent this inconvenience, or at least lessen the tensions that a large breast can generate in the back.

Sometimes we want to shop in spaces like Tuffwomen, but we fear that the pieces chosen are not according to our body. This has much more weight if it is a bra, where the adjustment is fundamental. In fact, one of the pieces of lingerie more difficult to buy is just the bra.

How to Find the Perfect Bra Fit

Now, focusing on the steps you should follow in the search for the right bra size, these are a few tips.

  1. First, find the correct measurements of your chest and contour. The measurements -to make the location in this chart- must be in inches. Try to use this section of your measure tape. If you work it with centimeters, then you will have to make some conversions.

     2.  Once you determine it, then you can simply make use of the size. You can determine the size of your cup and band size individually, and then join it; For example, if the result of your torso was 38 and the difference of this measure with the size of your bust is 2, then the measurement is located in 38B. (These two inches indicate the corresponding cup, and 2 corresponds to B)

    3. Make the necessary transformations. The most known measures are worked on inches, since the U.S. standards work it in this way. However, if the measures in your country are handled differently (for example, the equivalent to the U.S. band size 30 is designated in Europe as 65) you can use these tables to take it to the designation that best suits you.

Now, do the necessary tests. The measurements may vary slightly from one brand to another, to the point that you can often purchase a bra of a size other than the one you have determined. Therefore, it is advisable to test if this size is correct and know at least one or two possible variations.

What should you do if you want a sports bra?

If you’re on a fitness journey or prefer to use sport-bra type as part of your athleisure outfits, there are some tweaks you have to consider in finding your right measurement. The standard of the sizes is different, since these are manufactured without a cup. They can usually be found from xs to xl. In addition, they are usually made of a partially elastic material, which allows many figures to be easily adapted. No wonder it has become a great alternative.

In these cases, you should only make a simple conversion from your traditional measurement (previously determined). You just need to know that:

  • XS: can be used in 30AB-32A or 30BC-32B
  • S: replaces the values of 32AB-34A, 32BC-34B and 32CD-34C
  • M: ideal for women with 34AB-36A, 34BC-36B and 34CD-36C
  • L: used as a substitute for 36AB-38A, 36BC-38B and 36CD-38C
  • XL: the largest size, can be used by women with sizes 38AB-40A and 38CD-40C

The sizes are usually associated mainly with the size of the band size. The cups are less important in this regard, precisely because of the elastic feature already described in these garments.

Beyond picking the right cut, design, and color, focus on finding the right fit and measurement for your bra. Whether you wear a lace bra or a t-shirt bra, I assure you it makes instant wonders when you starting wearing the perfect fit bra for you.
