The Golden Beach of Antique

The province of Antique is still waiting to earn its spot in Philippine tourism but this travel writer of yours will guarantee that it is one place that you have to discover. Great for nature trippers and a nice venue to expose technology-infested kids to the natural world.

One of Antique’s “kept-secrets” is the Golden Beach located in Barangay Duyong in the town of Pandan. Pandan is one of the last towns of the province that borders Antique from Aklan.

We were already in Kalibo for a travel writing assignment and after a quick decision to skip Boracay, we made a detour to Pandan. From Aklan, Pandan is less than 30 minutes away.

Found the beach that I’ve been looking for.

I think for a travel blogger and freelance writer, we want to be in a place where it is just us. I know it’s selfish but it makes me feel like I own a beach house even for 3 days.

You might wonder, why is it named Golden Beach when it is a white beach. It is named as such as golden particles or quartz are washed to the sea due to quarrying in Antique.

Golden Beach is the only white beach throughout mainland Antique. I love the clear water. By the way, it is not a nudist beach. This kid just took off his pajamas during our pre-breakfast stroll.

Still at its raw beauty, even a lively fishing community.

  1. This place is interesting. Now its on my list the next time I set foot on Panay Island. The sunset in Antique, particularly in Sebaste, Culasi and Tibiao, well, spectatcular is an understatement! Even in the afternoon, I just love seeing the sun’s reflection on the water. You have mentioned that its a fishing village, that really would make it more interesting. I always wanted to go to small fishing villages. I love to watch how they go about their daily lives, the women and the young ones waiting for the men who went out to sea and the arrival of the fishermen with the day’s catch.

  2. Yeah, it’s a nice place. Nearby is cold spring and a river – one of the cleanest in the country. It’s a good sidetrip destination from Boracay.

My friend loves to immerse himself in a fishing village in Guimaras, even went fishing with the men.

Thanks for your comments to my blog Alfred!
