Roxas City

Weekend getaways can instantly revive our tired souls and a great time for some family time. We Filipinos usually spend it like going to the beach while others have a specific destination. On our case, we often visit Roxas City, the Seafoods Capital of the Philippines.

Roxas City is the capital of Capiz Province in Panay Island. Though this city bears the name of a previous president and a mightly clan, Roxas is a simple city, a perfect place for retirees. This may be offensive but for the past decade, little has changed with the city. It is midway between Aklan and Iloilo. So if you are in Iloilo going to Boracay or whatever it is, a side trip to Roxas City is a good idea.

If it is your first time hearing or visiting Roxas City, here are some places to check out.

Roxas Cathedral and their iconic bridge that survived the Second World War

old rotunda

I loved this sculpture in the rotunda but they removed all statues ( what?!). They said like these statues carrying heavy loads, the city will also experience hardships.

roxas city museum

Their museum known as Panubli-on was once a water tank. Most of their collections are things previously owned by President Manuel Roxas.

capiz bay

Find your peace at Capiz Bay.

Akira was so ecstatic that we let him play and swim at Baybay ( Ilonggo for beach) before going home. This beach is fronting the city’s seafood restaurants.

In any seafood restaurant, look for diwal or Angel Wings…believe me, its really delectable!

I can’t count the number of times that I have been to Roxas City. I first came here about a decade ago when my then boyfriend ( now hubby) was first assigned as medical representative. Ten years afters, juggling with my work as a freelance writer and mom to two little curly boys after, Roxas City one of our second homes ( of course, Iloilo is the other one 🙂 ).
