Dining in Davao: RBG Bar & Grill

Asking yourself where to eat in Davao? If so, then add RBG Bar & Grill on your list of restaurants in Davao. RBG Bar & Grill is the in-house restaurant of Park Inn by Radisson Davao. If you have read my previous posts, Park Inn by Radisson Davao was my home for my first two days in Davao as a Davao Food Appreciation Tour participant.

And just how lucky I was that RBG was one of the restaurants in Davao included in our tour. And not only that, it was our first stop! Very convenient, though I was late – I love my room at Park Inn that I forgot about the time. I arrived just as the General Manager ended his quick chat welcoming all of us participants. 🙂

Located at the ground floor of the hotel, it is an extension of the vibrant appeal of the Park Inn Davao. Hues of red and those dainty daisies on every table. Lovely.

Park Inn by Radisson Davao prepared the best menu for us – dishes with Davao touch. So let’s begin with the Appetizers.

We started with RBG Mini Burger w/ fries.

Here is  Ceviche ( though I personally want to just call it kinilaw). Nothing can at par with Mindanao’s kinilaw, I think they have the perfect recipe. The best kinilaw I had was in Samal but RBG’s version stole the crown. It was really good. Add the fact that they added pomelo ( Chinese grapefruit), giving this seafood dish a sweet delicate citrusy taste.

Coming in after our stimulating appetizers is the soup – Seafood Sinigang sa Mangosteen. A classic Pinoy soup dish, the sinigang was flavoured with Mangosteen – a very popular fruit that grows abundantly in Davao instead of tamarind or kamias( iba in Cebuano).

A typical Cebuana, I’m not fond of sinigang because of the biting after taste — too acidic for me. I don’t like “mukasim“. This one, it was just perfect. Not to mention the fresh seafoods in this healthy soup – squid, clam, tuna, mussels and shrimp. Seafood heaven!

The soup definitely stuffed our tummies. Next on the menu was Pasta. We were served with two kinds – Lechon Pasta and Pasta de Davao.

Tomato sauce with shredded lechon. A lovely recipe idea, isn’t it?

Now, this Pasta de Davao is an intrigue. Fettucine in white sauce with something fishy like imbao ( mangrove clam), bagaybay ( fish gonad) and bihod  ( fish roe). Bagaybay is the reproductive organ of a fish. It looks white inside the fish’s belly. I don’t eat this and I never thought that it can be used to add some flavourful twist to a pasta dish. Surprisingly, the flavour was savory and far from  being “exotic”. Must-try!

Our appetite was full blown when we were served with our entrée – Grilled Chicken, Crispy Pork Belly and Beef Salpicao. I’m so sorry that I was too preoccupied in eating and enjoying my meal that I forgot to take  photos of Crispy Pork Belly and Beef Salpicao. But both are winners, I was tempted to ask for rice. 😉

A delectable dessert should end a lovely lunch like we had at RBG Bar & Grill and Park Inn didn’t fail us. Ladies and gentlemen, say hi to Durian and Mangosteen Cheesecake.

I’m not that fond of cheesecakes, durian or mangosteen. In fact, I never tasted those fruits but oh my! You must try this when dining in Davao! Restos in Davao makes great cheesecake with awesome flavors.

There is no other restaurant in Davao that can give our food tour a good start than RBG Bar & Grill. Tasty and healthy, I admire how they served us dishes with ingredients common in Davao like durian, mangosteen, pomelo and seafood.

No need to ask where to eat in Davao, enjoy a relaxing meal at RBG Bar & Grill. Thank you Park Inn by Radisson Davao for having us and for Ms. Meghann Sta. Ines for hosting our lunch.
