Davao Hotels: Microtel by Wyndham Davao

If you are like most travelers, you would choose a local property from a famous hotel chain. Come think of it, choosing where to stay especially for your first visit is a gamble – you simply don’t know what to expect. As a major city, there are many hotel chains for you to stay while in Davao and one of these is Microtel by Wyndham-Davao.

Microtel by Wyndham is a trusted name for fuss-free stays and their Davao property didn’t disappoint me. Though my stay was really short, it was enough for me to say that it is a good Davao accommodation.

I was booked at Microtel Davao for my last night as a participant of Davao Food Appreciation Tour (DFAT) 2014. Getting a room was a breeze starting with contacting them online. They are very efficient, perfect for busy travelers.

Check-in time is 2:00pm but I tried to get my room around noon. Waited for a few minutes, very understandable since I tried to check-in early.

First expression: Room is huge!! It was too spacious as I have imagined it. I am aware that I will have a two queen-sized bed even though I am alone, but I never thought how “walkable” the room at Microtel Davao is.

As they have always mentioned it in other Microtel Davao reviews, the bed is outstanding with sufficient room amenities though I wish they have Wi-fi inside the rooms ( a personal preference as a travel writer). I also like that they put a booklet that includes a mini Davao travel guide. Very cool and a plus point!

Bathroom is neat and yeah, a hair dryer – another must amenity for me.

I had a chance to walk around the property at night, my last night in Davao. I know many hotels have taglines like “ your home away from home” and I think Microtel by Wyndham-Davao is one of the few that truly delivers that line. Even at late at night, it was nice hanging out at their lobby.

I went out to take some photos of its facade and exteriors. By the way, this hotel in Davao has one of the best locations. It is very close to the airport and surrounded by restaurants from Pancake House to a 24/7 McDonald’s. If I have a chance to stay here again, I would love to check out the shops at Market Basket.

This Davao accommodation only has 51 guestrooms, thus, you can be assured of personalized service from their staff. While taking photos, the guard on duty politely approached me, ” Maam, may sign din doon ( There is also a signage there)”. I was touched because that means, he was looking out for me while I was crossing the streets and moving around looking for a good angle. I have to tell him that I’m fine and ok, for him to go back to his post. Davaoeños are so nice! Kudos!

Checking out was also quick. I requested for a wake-up call at 5am ( I have a 7am flight) and swiftly, I was assisted with my luggage– though I really don’t need because I only have one small bag. Front desk cleared with a speedy signature and ushered to a taxi waiting for me. Early morning flight has never been that comforting! Thank you so much!

With its current condition, Microtel by Wyndham -Davao is one of the most well-maintained hotels in Davao, thus a highly recommended when it comes to where to stay in Davao. And by the way, this hotel has won this title for 2 consecutive years! Congrats and thank you for having me.
