Cooking with Kids: Easy Skillet Tortilla Pizza

Years ago, I posted on my Instagram a slice of my tortilla pizza and my classmate back in elementary asked for the recipe. Skillet tortilla pizza, cast iron tortilla pizza, or no oven needed tortilla pizza – whatever you call it – is quick and easy. That’s an understatement.

After so many years, I took some photos to FINALLY blog about this. To be honest, it just popped in my head to make this recipe and turns out that Tortilla Pizza is a common bar chow.

I’ve been making this for maybe 7-8 years, back when pan de sal pizza was widely introduced by food companies when marketing their pizza sauces. I just thought, “Why not use tortilla?” – I just want to feel affluent. hihi.

While this is good food to accompany your beer, kids will love this. No fail. You know how kids just eat the pizza toppings and you’re left eating all the crust? Or they want that pizza with the thinnest crust? There you go, tortilla pizza is the answer.

How to Make Tortilla Pizza – no oven needed!

This post doesn’t have the word ” recipe” in its title because I don’t measure. In my dialect, we say, ” bana-bana” 🙂 Let me show how you can make pizza using only four ingredients, in four steps.

Here are the ingredients:

  1. Tortilla (I use whole wheat)
  2. Ham, cut in small squares (you can use cooked hotdogs)
  3. Pizza Sauce
  4. Grated cheese ( Quickmelt or mozzarella)DSC_0561

Full disclose, this is not a sponsored post and I’m not in collaboration with any of the products used for my tortilla pizza recipe. This can serve as a pitch though 😉

Now let’s make some pizza!

  1. Place your tortilla on a plate, chopping board, or on any clean flat surface.

2.  Get one tablespoon of pizza sauce and put in the MIDDLE of the tortilla. Slowly, spread the sauce in circular motion until you reach the edges.

This can be messy for smaller kids, but it will build their concentration skills. Slowly  but surely.

3. Put the toppings like ham and then the grated cheese.

4. Use a non-stick pan or skillet. Heat it up and put the tortilla pizza. Wait until the cheese melts and it’s ready to serve. My technique is to cover my pan with another pan – my Macgayver-style oven. This way, your cheese totally melts and it will result to the best crispy tortilla skillet pizza.

While you cook your pizza, the kids can continue making them.

We make this as an after-school snack or usually as light dinner. Tortilla is available in the Philippines. Here in Iloilo, I always buy them from Iloilo Supermart and they are also available in SM Supermarkets.

Great for moms to bond with kids and teach them how to prepare their food. If there are some leftover ingredients, you can make this – tortilla quesadillas.

Hope you’ll make this recipe! I recommend this as a bonding activity with your kids or when you feel tired preparing food but still want your kids to eat something delicious. Thanks for reading!
