4Plus Hostel: One of the Cheap Hotels in Taiwan You Should Stay

Cheap hotels Taiwan along with seat sales and visa-free arrangements are one of the reasons why Taiwan is one of the most visited countries among Filipinos. The number of hostels in Taipei alone made me realize why plenty of young professionals spend their barkada trips there.  In our case, family travel is never cheap, that’s why I looked for cheap hotels in Taiwan via Booking.com.

During our 3-day trip to Taipei, we stayed at 4Plus Hostel, it also labeled as “4Plus Hotel”, but one thing for sure, this is a cheap hotel in Taipei that is not “cheap” when it comes to comfort, safety, and cleanliness.

With my kids now growing up, I’m booking cheaper hotels since I don’t have to worry much about their comfort (and my sanity!). Plus, if you stay in nice hotels, kids will never want to go out and explore (travel tip for parents). Hostels have their unique character and it exposes your kids to the reality of adventure. As of now, I’m comfortable with private rooms in hostels.

For this budget hotel in Taipei, I booked  the Triple Room with Shared Bathroom. Kid1 is already 12 and he is already booked as an adult or extra person. Thus, moms you know this is the perfect room for our family. If you are with your friends, this is also a nice private room to stay.

The room looked the same in reality and that’s one good point about 4Plus Hotel in Taipei. This is why among other cheap hotels Taiwan, I chose 4Plus Hostel. If you check their page on Booking.com, you can see more options from Double Rooms to Mixed Dormitories with Scandanavian-flaired rooms.

The comforters are thick and perfect for the cuddle weather in Taipei. The double deck bed was surprisingly large. My husband and I can fit in one of the beds – knowing our sizes, it is really spacious.

Our room also had lockers and a desk with chair. Each bed has their own bed light and a small wall mount for you to place your phone. We like the no-frills interior of our room.

My concern was the shared bathroom since it was our first time. I have stayed in private rooms with bathrooms like Singapore and Malacca. Thankfully, the bathroom was just outside our room and it was well maintained. Very neat and even though there were other guests on our floor, we never had the chance to see them or queue to use the bathrooms (there were 3 showers). The bathroom was pretty neat complete with a vanity section and hair dryer.

Location

Most hostels can be found in Ximending, the shopping district of Taipei, but I was worried about how busy it can get. With kids, I want central location without the rush. 4Plus Hostel is close to many stations even the Main Station if you want to walk, but the closest station is Shandao Temple Station.

Not until we alight the Taipei Hop in-Hop Off Bus, we realized that our hotel was just walking distance from Huashan Cultural and Creative Industries Park, one of Taipei’s top attractions.

This is what the hotel looks like from the outside. It is easy to spot them even from the taxi- green and all! 🙂 Don’t be fooled by its facade, the hotel’s interior and the rooms are at par to most hotels in town.

It is only a few minutes from the Main Station, making cheap hotels Taiwan like this highly accessible when taking the bus to and from the airport. In front of this cheap hotel in Taiwan is a Roman Catholic Church while on the other side is another Christian Church. Surrounding the hotel are restaurants and convenience stores where we stocked some breakfast and pokemon drinks.

The hotel is straight forward – a place to wash up and sleep. The staff were very nice and attentive too. Because of some language barrier, I’m not sure if they have plenty of Japanese guests or if it is owned by a Japanese. The front desk staff made a comment (with a smile) about my Japanese visa  while photocopying my passport during check-in and there was a Japanese guest who helped Kid1 prepare his spicy noodles for breakfast at the common area.

Speaking of common area, this is one thing I think guests love about hostels. The kids love change and how laid-back it can be – just like our Taiwan trip.
