Clean Comedy is Not Boring

When you talk about the best contemporary stand-up comedians, it is only a concise list. While comedy is subjective, most people probably agree that the best of the best include Dave Chappelle, Kevin Hart, Norm McDonald, Chris Rock, and probably Wanda Sykes and Ali Wong.

However, they all have something in common. They swear; a lot. And people have come to associate swearing with an edge. So, what happens is that clean comedians have been mistakenly branded as boring.

There is a reason why you see Chapelle’s stand-up specials on cable TV or Netflix. You simply could not show them in Primetime where kids watch their shows. For one, the subject matter may have a lot of sex, drugs, and violence involved. No topic is taboo for these comics.

For the most part, that is all right. Comedy is supposed to hold a mirror against society’s flaws so that it can see its pockmarks, scars, and imperfections.

One misconception is that clean comedians are not doing all these. But it is furthest from the truth. It just so happens that clean comedy shines a light on the positive aspects of life. For instance, Jim Gaffigan, one of the most famous comedians known for his clean act, chooses to focus on family, American culture, and traditions, as well as food.

Dave Chapelle was paid $60 million for his Netflix deal. But Jim Gaffigan is also doing very well, as Forbes listed him as one of the highest-paid comedians.

Why Hire Clean Comedians

You can bring the kids along and not worry about explaining the intricacies of the jokes. Their jokes are also relatable since they are very familiar with their demographics. For instance, bring Dave Chapelle to perform before a crowd of kids, and he would be out of his element.

  • Nobody Gets Offended

Jeff Ross, also known as Roastmaster General, is known for his brash, often insulting humor. He will pick up somebody from the crowd and exaggerate the person’s imperfections. It would be fine if your guests paid for the ticket to watch the show since they know what to expect when going there. Imagine what would happen if you hire an insult comic and pick him or her out from the crowd!

  • Promote Your Brand

If you are a company hosting an event, it is a safe bet to hire clean comedians. Kathy Griffin, Norm McDonald, Amy Schumer, and Tom Green are known for their shock humor. They are renowned for doing the unexpected. Do you remember Griffin’s stunt when he held a bloody mask of Donald Trump in 2017? Even people who were used to her shock humor thought that it was too much. Now, consider how it would be if your company were associated with that stunt? The PR nightmare would be tough to bounce back from.

In the end, clean comedians have a wealth of material that will resonate with almost everybody. You will not have any problems with the stand-up comic stepping on anybody’s toes. Everybody will go home feeling wonderful after a night of great fun.
