The Modern Women

The women of today are more than inspiring—from being voiceless to voters, from a plain stay-at-home mom to a career woman. The women of today have choices, at least most of them. It was a long fight and the fight is not yet over, but look at all these little accomplishments they’ve gotten so far.

A woman now has an option to either get married and start a family or pursue her career. Or she can do both if she wishes. After all, women are stronger than before. How else do they differ?

Defining the Modern Women VS What Used To Be

Modern Women Are More Ambitious

One hundred years ago, the list of what women should think about does not include dreaming and actually pursuing them. Now is a different story. Women are allowed to enroll in schools and learn. Women are allowed in the workforce. Women are allowed to earn and spend their own money. Women can do anything they put their heart and mind into.

You don’t often hear a ‘career man’ but they coined the term career woman to describe these ambitious ladies. We now see women leading teams and companies. We see women athletes. We see women politicians actually governing and serving the people. We now see women living their lives.

Modern Women Are More Aggressive

Quiet, timid, and submissive. These are just some women-like qualities because these were what was expected of a woman. The husband does all the work to earn money for the family and the woman is expected to be a housewife and take care of the children.

But things are quite different this time around. Some are still stay-at-home wives (and there’s nothing wrong with that) but not everyone. More women are seen in the workforce. More moms become entrepreneurs or working moms.

More women now have fire in their eyes and we need more of that.

Modern Women Are More Assertive

Discrimination will always exist, and it is not only exclusive to females. Women of today are fighters. You’ll see and hear voices of random women everywhere—on the street, on social media, in meeting rooms, inside the office, in the news, etc. Women are now freer to speak up what’s on their mind. And the grandest change is most of them are finally acknowledged and heard.

Some traditional thinkers might roll their eyes, but today’s women are no longer the meek-type they know.

Finding the Balance

We can never totally let go of the old definition of what is being a woman, but it can always improve. Change happens and it can either be bad or good. Time changes things and we all grow. Women’s roles expanded and so does the challenge that goes with it.

As soon as married, women used to be stay-at-home individuals focusing all their time and strength into nurturing the family she and her partner started. That’s how a typical woman’s life is defined by society. But more women break this cycle. More women pursue their career as they become wives and mothers.

In order to become a successful career woman with a family, it will require more patience, more dedication, more physical, mental, and emotional strength, and the most important element—according to Beth Ventura on her ‘On the House’ interview—the right timing.

Beth is the President of Anchor Land Holdings, Inc. and she is also a mom to a young kid. In her interview, she elaborated more on the concept of right timing and right phasing in attaining that balance we all desire.

She also gave tips on how to build confidence and carry one’s self. And how preparation is important in not just work but in all of life’s aspect. It’s these small details in our lives that will surprisingly define who we really are.

To give life and to nurture are two main roles of women in this life. But the character of a woman is not strictly boxed into these purposes alone. There are more other roles to play and a woman has a right to choose. No matter how you define a modern woman, you definitely know one!
