Half Day Tour in Geneva: Things to do and see

The city of Geneva welcomed us to our month-long European tour but unfortunately, we don’t have the luxury to spend at least an overnight stay as we need to travel to Paris on the same day.

Still, it didn’t stop me us from enjoying key attractions in the Swiss city and be awed by its charm. So if you only have a few hours to spare, here are the things to see and do in Geneva.

United Nations Headquarters

Palais des Nations or the United Nations Headquarters was our first stop upon our arrival. There are private tours you can schedule if you have the time but for us, we just want to see the building and a sense of Geneva City.

The front of Palais des Nations is a sight to see with water fountains and the popular, Broken Chair.

Jet d’Eau and Lake Geneva

The heart of Geneva will always be its lake where you can just stroll and kill some time. Its main attraction is Jet d’Eau that can be seen even as far as some border towns of France. The fountain is the perfect backdrop but seeing all the European buildings around the lake captivated me and stole my heart.

Around Lake Geneva are popular attractions like museums, parks and other IG-worthy spots. I love the swans (geese?) and how clean the water is. Arriving in Europe with the chilly air from the lake was a delightful experience for a tropical girl like me.

Geneva Old Town

If you arrive in a European town and you don’t know what to do, you should always look for its Old Town. Their historic centers will always be filled with sights and attractions and in the case of Geneva, it left a good impression that I told my husband that I have found my new favorite city. Of course, he reminded me that it was just our Day 1 in Europe (more to come!).

So if you don’t have much time but want to explore Geneva’s key cities, follow this itinerary. Watch my video of our Day 1 in Europe spent in Geneva!
