5 Must-Try Dishes at SOI Eat Thai, Love Thai

SOI Eat Thai, Love Thai is one of the newest restaurants in Iloilo, recently opened at SM City Iloilo. Soi in Thai means, ” small street”, a branch-off from the main street. In our local language according to my Thailand-based friends, it is similar to eskinita. We all know the popularity of Thai street foods. Hence, the name suits best to this Thai restaurant.

If you’re planning to dine at So and have no idea what to order, stick to their specialities and classic Thai dishes. Dishes can be cooked in “mild” ( in quotation marks because their mild can still be spicy for others) and hot. Don’t worry, their mild is not ear-popping hot. I’m not into spicy dishes yet I enjoyed their food in mild.

Ready to dine at Soi Restaurant Iloilo? Here are my top picks.

Vegetarian Fried Rice,PHp128

They use Thai rice. You can easily notice the difference. I learned that Soi only uses local ingredients from Thailand. Rice with mushrooms, corn, cabbage, carrots. Their Bagoong Rice is another house specialty.

Sukothai, Php298

If you ask their waiters for their specialty, they will tell you to try Sukothai and it never fails. This rice noodle soup with bean sports, tofu, meat slices, pork balls and other toppings will never disappoint. The moment I took my first sip of its rich broth, I instantly tasted the therapeutic cilantro flavor, giving me a natural remedy for my flu that day.

Ask for mild since this is for sharing ( unless your group all love spicy food). To give your soup some Thai zing, pick any of the condiments like this chili powder.

Chicken Pandan Php248

A classic Thai dish and a hit if you are dining with kids at Soi, chicken pandan gives a new flavor to the usual fried chicken. I don’t have a photo since I grabbed one piece from the other table ( haha). Nonetheless, the meat was perfectly cooked. Soft and flavorful.

Pad Thai in Tofu, Php198

You can’t simply omit Pad Thai when talking about Thai cuisine, and Soi is proud to have it as one of their in-house specialities. They offer pad thai in tofu, chicken, and shrimp. I like to try their shrimp pad thai next time.

Sticky Rice with Mango, Php118

Sticky rice ( we call it puto maya but Thai has a sightly different flavor) is a breakfast staple or a kakanin, but Thai’s version has been a popular dessert especially among foreigners. I had to to try it myself. I like the texture, though I wish the mango was sweeter. Still, I still recommend it and ail surely order it next time.

Thai Iced Tea,Php85

Soi

Neutralize the spices and hot flavor with every sip of their Thai Iced Tea. Soi has plenty of choices like Lemon Grass ( another fave of mine!), and pandan. Thai Iced Tea is still my go-to drink.
