Jump Rope is Quarantine’s Favorite Workout. Here’s Why You Should Try It Too

The pandemic gave rise to plenty of shared interests and one of them is fitness. With nothing much to do especially during strict lockdowns at the earlier days of Covid, many people turn to fitness. After all, the main excuse was always, “I don’t have time to exercise!” and finally, we have all the time in the world to sweat it out.

If you’ve been checking your social media specifically Tiktok, jump rope has been one of the top workouts. I’ve been jumping rope for 2 months now and I love it. I never thought I like it because I hate jumping and I remember when my gym coach handed me a rope, I gave her an I’ll-do-anything-except-that look.

Here’s my shameless post in one of my workouts. I’m a beginner myself yet I finally got the rhythm and coordination.

Whether you are looking for a cardio alternative or starting your fitness journey, why not try jump rope workouts?

Here are some reasons why you should try jump rope workouts.

1. Jump rope requires less space.

This is the main reason why jumping rope became a quarantine favorite especially during strict lockdown. For those who don’t have their own treadmill or any cardio machine at home as well as those who can’t go out, jump rope is the best workout.

You can you do it even with limited space. Some people can do in their balconies, rooms, and living rooms. Even post-pandemic and those who travel a lot, jump rope is a workout you can do practically anywhere like in your own hotel room.

2. Jump rope is a cheap workout.

Yes, fitness can cost money – especially if you love buying gym clothes 😉 – but jump rope is an affordable way to lose weight. You can buy them for only Php200 ($5). I bought mine from a local mall for Php500 ($10) and it is already a UFC leather jump rope.

If you want to order online, try www.decathlon.ph . They have jump ropes as affordable as Php100.

3. Jump rope burns more calories.

Jumping rope is a total body workout and it’s effective. Menshealth cites that a study showed 10-minutes of jump rope reaps the same results to that of jogging for 30 minutes. Jump rope workout builds your endurance and tones not just your legs but glutes, core, and even arms.

4. Jump rope is low impact.

If you’re on the heavier side like me, jumping is literally a pain. That’s why I love my spin class, it is knee-friendly compared to running and other cardio exercises.

Suprisingly, jump rope is low-impact. I can attest to this – no knee pain for me. Like other form of exercises, your form is very imporant. Observe proper form especially when landing. Also, I wear my Adidas UltraBoost for shock absorption.

5. Jump rope is fun!

This why I love jump rope, though it’s not as enjoyable as I feel with indoor cycling (party on a bike anyone?), I like the feeling of playing. Jump rope brings you back to your childhood and when I first started, I actually felt addicted to jump rope mainly due to the fact that it brings happy memories.

So there you have it, it’s time to move more and start with jump rope. Jump rope workouts can spice up your fitness routine as well – think about double unders and all those tricks.

Are you into jump rope as well? Share your experience and let’s inspire each other!
