For Mother’s Day, I’m Treating Myself by Putting Value to Women’s Health

Been thinking about how I will celebrate Mother’s Day. You see, I’m not the kind of a woman who waits for others (in this case my husbands and kids) to at least pay me homage to motherhood. Not that they don’t put any effort either, I’m just that woman who love doing things for myself and make things happen on my own.

I have booked a quick island getaway for the family for Mother’s Day weekend, but there is something I want to do for myself. Shopping? Pampering? Hmm.. I always do that.

After some deeper thoughts on what I want to give myself for Mother’s Day, there is only one thing I want – my health. Not just any kind of health, but my health as a woman – Women’s Health.

My #weightlossjourney is not just about dropping dress sizes, but a decision in taking control of my well-being. Hence, aside from going to the gym and changing my diet ( believe me, I'm trying), I know I need medical intervention. My lovely OBGYN at @themedicalcityiloilo diagnosed me with abnormal uterine bleeding which is mainly caused by obesity. I will be seeing a dietician and and an endocrinologist for my high lipid (FATS) and uric acid. On top of that, I availed their She Cart, a package of essential tests for women -Pap Smear, intravaginal ultrasound, and sonomammogram. I already did my Pap Smear and scheduled my ultrasound next week. My sonomammogram depends on my cycle. Modern moms will always buy a gift for themselves this Mother's Day, but why not treat yourself a thorough check up and tests for women's health? Stay tuned as I share my experience especially with Sonomammogram. #TMCIloilo #WomensHealthCenter #PatientsArePartners #momblogger #momlife #womenshealth #selfLove

I haven’t blogged about it but I’ve been going to the gym, taking my life back one workout at a time. But I want to go further, thus, I went to The Medical City Iloilo who has a dedicated Women’s Health Center.

Value Women’s Health

Moms, we all know we put our family firsts before ourselves. Kids gets sick, husband needs to have his stress-level constantly down – those kind of stuff. We have a long list of contact numbers for everything emergency even for emergency dentist  .When do go to our doctor for women’s health? Isn’t it only during prenatal check-ups?

I’m guilty myself and my husband has been bugging me to have a check up because in the past years, I have long and heavy period. I brushed it off as due to age. But going back to my Mother’s Day self-love, I wanted to have a thorough checkup and tests.

I appreciate how my hospital has their own Women’s Health Center. From their reception area, it is relaxing and moms like me can have some peace and quite.

I basically don’t have any idea what I wanted except for a Pap Smear ( Moms, when was the last time?), and I’m glad their team at the TMCI Women’s Health Center gave me options on what I want courtesy of their SHE Cart Package.

The She Cart Package from The Medical City Iloilo

When you visit TMCI’s Women’s Health Center, make sure to ask about their SHE Cart.

SHE CART is one of the new and exclusive packages tailored to answer the needs of a woman for health screening. It allows women to experience efficiency at its finest for it addresses the one-stop-shop delivery to our patient partners. Papsmear, sonomammography of both breasts and Transvaginal Ultrasound are primarily the components inside the SHE Cart

The SHE Cart is what I needed as of now. Under this package, I availed the following tests:

  • Pap Smear
  • Sonomammogram
  • Transvaginal Ultrasound

Among the three tests, Sonomammography will be a first-time. Our health is highly dependent on our menstrual cycle, hence I only had my Pap Smear during my visit. My ultrasound will be for next week and I was also advised to call them as soon as I have my period to schedule Sonomammogram.

Had my vitals checked including my blood pressure.

A small yet relaxed nook inside the Women’s Health Center, a good spot to wait for your turn to see your OB-GYN.

It was a quick wait when I finally got to see my OB-GYN, the head of TMCI Women’s Health Center herself – Dra. Razel Colacion. Petite, smart, and stylish – she’s an epitome of a modern woman. She took her time to answer my inquiries like Cervical Cancer and vaccines.

I learned a lot from her that I can share with you, my lovely readers. I guess this is what they meant with their Patients are Partners mantra. The only thing I was shy to ask was where she got her chic statement necklace.

From my check-up, Doc Razel finally gave me a diagnosis – Abnormal Uterine Bleeding. As what I have shared in my Instagram post, it is caused by obesity.

Weight is a health issue, guys! But I’m glad and thankful I got a diagnosis on top of my high lipid and uric from last month’s lab results. Doc Razel referred me to the hospital’s Weight management as well.

I had a quick Pap Smear and here’s what I learned from Doc Razel:

  • You start your pap smear 3 years after your first sexual contact
  • Women should have regular pap smear until 70 years old
  • Annual is the best, but if previous pap smear showed a normal result, every 3 years is fine.

I highly recommend to sexually active women to always have regular pap smear. Many says it hurts but it will hurt more if there is something wrong inside you. I went to spinning the next day and maybe because our workout was too intense, I had minor cramps. I just took a rest and it was gone.

Women’s Health. Self-Love.

I’ll be sharing my experience with Sonomammogram since not many women can read first-hand experience about this test. With Philippines leading when it comes to breast cancer, we need to be informed and be checked regularly.

As of now, I’m thankful that I learned about The Medical City Iloilo’s Women’s Health Center. Women’s health is delicate just like us women and you want professionals to take care of you. Likewise, it the ambiance that I also like. It’s like going to my salon or spa.

Iloilo Ob-GYN

So there you go ladies, let’s start taking care of our health. If you had any pain or cramps, have a check up! Not sure if it’s a lump you’re feeling in your breast? Go to your doctor now!

Would it be nice to put importance to our regular pap smear and breast ultrasounds the way we jot down our schedules for haircuts, eyebrow threading, and waxing?
