How to Have a Baby Shower When You’re a Traveling Mother-to-Be

One of the greatest gifts in the world is becoming a mother. It’s a wonderful feeling and it’s also a very empowering feeling but with this feeling comes great responsibility and sacrifice. The things you used to do, eat, and enjoy are now temporarily put on pause. Whether it’s enjoying a couple of glasses of wine or jet-setting the world… you have to make those sacrifices to ensure the safety of you and the baby.

To be more specific, let’s dive into the world of travel. A lot of people have it in their minds that pregnant women can’t travel after they’ve hit a certain point in their pregnancy. Well, that’s certainly not the case. According to americanpregnancy.org, a woman can travel at any time during her pregnancy as long as she doesn’t have any identified concerns or complications.

Being that you are pregnant, there are definitely precautions you need to take to keep from getting sick, especially when flying on a plane.

With that being said, if you’re an avid traveler and are pregnant, your pregnancy shouldn’t stop the show, whether you’re traveling for work or for leisure! The only “complication” that may come with being pregnant and frequent travel is planning your baby shower! Traditionally, the expecting mother is not supposed to plan her own baby shower but who says you have to stick to tradition? And as an avid, pregnant traveler… throw tradition out the window!

A Virtual Baby Shower: Throwing Traditional Baby Showers Out the Window

With traditional baby showers, you’re supposed to have all your close family and friends around showering you with gifts… it’s actually a very beautiful and intimate gathering but when you travel a lot, you’re more than likely not going to be able to have a shower thrown for you and have all your close family and friends there to celebrate it with you… that’s when you may have to come to the conclusion that you’ll have to throw your own baby shower.

There’s absolutely no shame in doing it. It gives you more control and is probably less stressful. In throwing your own baby shower while traveling and no access to close family and friends, the best option would be to throw yourself a virtual baby shower!

What is a Virtual Baby Shower?

A virtual baby shower is a baby shower that is done online via social media. Virtual baby showers can be done via Facebook Live or going live on Instagram. These types of showers are best on social media because it allows your friends and family to still be at your shower without physically being at your shower. They’ll be able to see you open up your gifts and comment with you and each other!

How Does a Virtual Baby Shower Work?

Well, virtual baby showers work best when you’re going to be at a particular location for an extended period of time. That allows you a good amount of time to invite your friends and family to participate in your shower. Follow these steps to planning your own virtual baby shower.

  1. Send Out Invitations. You can send invitations either online by evite or social media (Facebook/Instagram) or through the mail, at least 1-2 months in advance. Your invitations should say the day, date, time, and location of where your baby shower will be held. You’ll also want to list all the locations and websites that you’re registered at.

  1. Register Your Gifts Online. Registering your gifts online allows your attendees to see the items you want and need and can have them shipped directly to where you will be located during your travels. Just be sure not to peek as you receive your gifts!

  1. Decorate Your Baby Shower Area. Whether you’re in a hotel or Airbnb, you’ll still want to have some baby shower decor to make your background festive. Order a festive diaper cake and have balloons of your choice all in the background (you don’t need too much decor).

  1. Go Live! When it’s time for your virtual baby shower to begin, hop on the social media platform of your choice and start to open your gifts and thank everybody for them! You’ll get to see everyone tuning in and still engage with your close friends and family even though you’re miles apart!
