I have a big fascination with cooking competitions on TV, specifically Cupcake Wars. Presentation is a big part of cooking and when it comes to cupcake, creativity along with artistry is a big part.
Your travel writer had a chance to see it for yourself when I got invited with other Iloilo bloggers to a cupcake decorating contest. The contest is one of the activities organized by Tinapayan Bakeshop, Iloilo’s trusted bakeshop for their Chocolate Festival.
It was held at Atrium Mall with shoppers watching these chefs in training doing their thing.
A total of 8 teams from different universities, colleges and culinary schools in Iloilo.
Tinapayan Bakeshop provided the cupcakes from banana to red velvet (yum!) and the teams will compete in terms of their choice of filling and of course, the cupcake decorations.
They were given 90 minutes to fill in and decorate the cakes..
When done, some cupcakes were whisked up to Promenade Restaurant while others were put on display at the bakeshop.
Want to see their work?
I love the geometric concept of this cupcake. The choco ball has chocolate mouse inside. How do they make it?
Showcasing different pastry techniques
Love the pistachio and their red velvet creation. Look at these chocolate balls.
Kids will go cupcake crazy with these..
I call these the Marie Antoinette collection
Tasting and judging the best cupcake. Tough job.
We were tasked to pick the Blogger’s Choice, tasting a total of 40 cupcakes. Pardon my plate.
Drank a pitcher of water but I gave up and asked for coffee. We were also assisted by the oily taste of fries. ;D
So who won?
The Blogger’s Choice. The fruity and dainty collection from St. Therese MTC Colleges.
The winning team hailed by the judges from Central Philippine University.
Congratulations!
Thank you Tinapayan for having us. Kudos to the organizers!
