The Voice of Jessie J

Jessie J - Who You Are

This is the first time that I’m writing about an artist here in my blog. As this site is my official freelance writer portfolio, I usually write about travel and family life. But I simply can’t get enough of Ms. Jessica Cornish a.k.a Jessie J.

For the past four years, Barney songs and nursery rhymes have dominated my music world. However, genes is such a powerful tool. Akira ( my eldest) adored Jason Mraz even when he was still two and now my one year old Liam fell in love with a girl named Jessie.

While waiting for Aki in school, Liam and I heard the song “Price Tag”. Surprisingly, Liam was clapping and dancing! I didn’t even know the title that time. Poor me! But it was such a nice tune.

Right after we came home, I checked out YouTube for that funky song. When I was able to absorbed the lyrics and its message, my vocal chords was crying out foul. We can’t stop singing and dancing with Jessie J.

I’m a little obsessed about Jessie j because she is simply brilliant. A genuine talent. Vocals and songwriting. She has written several songs for different artists and her songs became soundtracks but the most popular is the song she wrote for Miley Cyrus ” Party in the USA”.

Now I understand the title. I used to wonder why Miley who is American has a song “Party in the USA since it was written by an English lady. Reading its lyrics, the “character” is really not from the US. I think Jessie was thinking of trying her luck in America when she wrote this song.

Here she is singing her famous song made edgier with Jessie J’s unique vocal gift. Now I can sing this song without feeling like a cougar! wink!

What I love her is that she has plenty of acoustic performances for her songs. I learned from one of her interviews is that she likes acoustic for her songs to cater to many people and it is a reflection of her theatrical nature. She cited that her own mom will not listen to the original track for her song “Do it Like A Dude” ( which she first intentionally wrote for Rihanna) but only to its  acoustic version.

And for my Liam’s favorite Jessie j song, it has become his lullaby. Seriously!
