The City of Dapitan

Dapitan City is one of the most visited cities in Mindanao like Davao and Cagayan de Oro and one of the cities of Zamboanga del Norte, together with its capital Dipolog City.

Getting there

There are many ways to reach Dapitan City- air, sea and land.  The fastest route is to take a plane from Manila to Dipolog Airport. From the airport, you can take a tricycle to reach the bus terminal in Dipolog. Then you can take a bus or van for less than an hour to Dapitan City.

If you are based in Mindanao,there are many vans and buses that you can ride going to Dapitan City. Another roadtrip adventure is to visit Dapitan via Dumaguete; you take a a RORO ferry that leaves daily from Dumaguete for Dapitan.

Sights to see and things to do

As a vibrant city like Dapitan, there are many interesting things to do and explore during your visit. Dapitan City is home to Rizal Shrine and the world-class resort of Dakak.  You should never miss going to Rizal Shrine when in Dapitan; it is very close to the city proper and admission is free!

If you are on a trip to pamper yourself in a luxurious ways, book and spend some quite time along the shores of Dakak. It might be a little bit pricey for a roadtrip but Dakak offers one of the best beach holidays in Mindanao and the rest of the country.

If you are on a budget travel, proceed to Dapitan Bay where there are also many local beaches that you can take a dip. More popular with its name as Sunset Boulevard, both locals and tourists find refuge here for some good food, drinks and company.

Aside from Rizal Shrine and Dakak, take a walk around the city. Don’t miss their plaza which was beautified by Jose Rizal himself ; the plaza has a relief map of Mindanao that the National hero create himself to teach his students geography. The Holy Rosary Cathedral of Dapitan City is also a must-see with its altar designed also by Dr. Jose Rizal.

  1. Dear Valerie, I am working on a paper for public history at North Carolina Central University re. the Dapitan site. I have your travel information. Could you also let me know (ball park figure) what it would cost to take a round trip from the Domestic Airport, the tricycle ride to Dipolog, the bus fare from Dipolog, and the bus or van to Dapitan city.
