Starting Summer Vacation with Museo Iloilo

Summer vacation is finally here!! Well, not officially because we still have their culminating activities this Thursday and Friday. What is important is that no more lessons and assignments. Hurray for me!

Yesterday, we went to the dentist and had Aki’s two teeth extracted – the first on our list on what to accomplish this summer. A lot of drama and some tears because he was prepared for one tooth but Tito dentist found another tooth coming out, baby tooth has to be go away. Aside from ice cream, I told him we will go to the museum after as treat for being a brave boy. He has been asking me to take him to Iloilo museum for quite some time now.

After our trip in Intramuros, he asked if we have a museum here in Iloilo. “Yeah, Museo Iloilo and you’ve been there once“, I told him. It was a realization, I have to bring them to our local museum here in Iloilo. Aki was four years old and Liam was a baby in a sling when we last visited Museo Iloilo with my mom and nephew. My husband dropped us at Museo Iloilo and Aki was excited, moving on from the pain he endured back at the dentist. I was more concerned with Liam, will a 3 year-old enjoy visiting Museo Iloilo? Thank heavens, he rushed and looked at the exhibits. of course, I have to remind him — “no stepping”, and “no touching”.

This is my 3rd time visiting Iloilo’s museum and saw great improvements. I like how they arranged the pieces with some visual aids for readings. When we arrived, there was a group of students and  a staff was guiding them, explaining every collection.

One of the treasures inside Museo Iloilo. Early human settlers with gold mark unearthed in Oton. Liam said, ” spiderman with a sword”. 🙂

I love the display but I miss the first religious artifacts I saw before, way back in college. They used to have statues with precious stones and in ivories. I hope Ilonggo patrons can loan them again to the museum. It was the most elegant pieces I’ve seen.

My boys were attracted to weaponry and arms. They love the little cannon ( there are two cannons in front of the museum) and shields. Aki is starting to read these visuals, good kid.

The collections at Museo Iloilo are not that large, it is in fact a small museum. Still, worthy to visit especially for those looking for places to visit in Iloilo. Well-maintained, and looks nice inside.

They also have a small gallery for artworks from local artists. The Mr. Bean was the first thing Liam saw in the museum.

It was a nice quick stop. We even shot a few videos like this one with Liam. Don’t mind the audio, he was talking gibberish and the only thing audible are “here’s the fire”, ” here’s the gun” and “here’s the bomb”.

Museo Iloilo is open from  Monday-Saturday ( 9am-5pm). For fees, 20Php for students and 50Php for non-students/adults. I personally think that the 50Php is a little bit expensive given the size of the collection. I hope they can lower it to attract more people to visit the museum.

Photography is allowed except for flash. Before, they don’t allow that’s why I left my camera. Good thing, I have my iPad explaining the poor resolutions of my photos for this post.
