How Yolanda Altered Our Weekend

While most people are panic buying or making last minute precautionary measures for super typhoon Haiyan ( local name, Yolanda), my day was quite productive. Short talk on social media for the ladies at Tawili Center and checking for cancellations from my kids’ classes to our flights.

If you are a soccer mom like me, your child might be participating for the Alaska Cup 2013. My son goes to a school where football is the main sport and we planned this trip months ago.

I booked our flights and hotel as early as September while our footballers trained almost everyday during the long weekend that served as a quick semestral break. Trained until they looked like toasted almonds.

My son and the rest of the group were very excited. Counting the days till the Alaska Cup 2013 while I was busy making our itinerary – food tour in Binondo and heritage walk around Intramuros. Only it was cancelled and moved to December 7-8. Thank you Yolanda!

Cancellation of the Alaska Cup 2013 was the news we didn’t want to hear. I was hoping that we can fly on Saturday and finish the activity and move on to the next. As much as we want to keep safe, I was concerned how my kid will feel that we will not be flying this weekend.

But it ended well when he said ” so we have one more month to practice? Yehey!”. Now that’s the spirit!

Lastly, there’s my duty as a travel writer.  I was scheduled to work on my travel assignment for this Manila trip.  And that will be postponed too.

How are you affected by Haiyan/Yolanda?

Keep safe and warm everyone!
