El Dorado Water Park

El Dorado

For those who wish to stay in a hotel in Iloilo that has a decent pool or a weekend swimming with your kids, El Dorado Water Park is the best choice. It is located in Smallville, a district that is more synonymous for parties, clubbing and dining. But a little bit inside Smallville adjacent to Westown Hotel is this haven for families tagging their kids along during a short stop in Iloilo City.

El Dorado

El Dorado Water Park is part of the MO2 Complex which is consist of their hotel (Westown Hotel) and a club MO2. And it is suprising that this waterpark caters to kids. I say, it is really a kiddie place particularly in terms of the depth of the water which is safe for children even for the little ones.

El Dorado

What I love best about El Dorado Water Park is that they have a shaded pool that is only 2 feet deep. It was great for me who has a little kid who still wants to swim at 2pm when the sun shines the brightest. Its shaded, saving your child from the harmful rays of the sun and the depth is very safe for little kids.

El Dorado

Entrance fee is 100 per person and you can surely bring your own food. There also have their own restaurant to serve affordable and sumptuous dishes. If you are staying in Westown Hotel, entrance is free.

Fort Ilocandia Resort and Casino

Fort Ilocandia Resort and Casino is a striking deluxe accommodation in Ilocos Norte. Located in the center of Laoag City, this 5-star resort is 10 minutes away from the airport. Its look is very unique yet carries the characteristics of Ilocano architecture- in fact, it is a combination of Spanish villas and local designs. It is a big strucutre of beautiful red bricks.

Fort Ilocandia also has somewhat an interesting history. This hotel was built to house the guests for the wedding of then presidential daughter Irene Marcos to Greggy Araneta. It was said, that intensive pressure was placed to finish the hotel before the wedding. Here, guests entertained themselves before, during and even after the wedding.

Until now, the resort still upholds its connection with the Marcoses. In the walls close to the main lobby, many framed photographs are placed showing the First Couple ( Imelda and Ferdinand) meeting with some of the most powerful politicians and even royalties.  What caught my fancy was their photograph with Cuban leader, Fidel Castro.

Now, it is an luxurious accommodation that also caters guests coming from China, Macau and Taiwan for its casino. There are many direct flights from these places to Laoag International Airport ( which was also built for the wedding of Irene..whew!) I’ve been researching who owns this hotel now.  I thought this was a government-owned hotel and now privatize to Chinese businessmen. Anyone who knows who owns Fort Ilocandia?

This warm and cozy resort in Laoag is complete with many amenities to cater to the needs of its guests. Built in a 77 hectare property, there are plenty of things and activities to do aside from gambling in its casino. It is close to some sand dunes and has a 2 kilometer beach. When we went there, we saw a kiddie activity park which is located in front of the resort – glad it is not just for gambling people.

I’ve read in some blogs that Fort Ilocandia Resort and Casino is not as open to the public as before. Before, people can swim in its beach without staying in the resort and can freely take photos of the property. During our trip, we were allowed to explore the resort but of course not everything. I didn’t know that you can’t just go there and have some tour but no security called our attention..thanks anyway!

Choose Dakak!

Friday, June 19th, 2009

Finally, I was able to spend some quality and enjoyable time in Dakak. I love the beach and in one of the posts about top beaches in the Philippines, I was dreaming of Dakak. ..

picture-062

Getting there

We only stayed in Dakak for a day since they       were fully-booked. Dakak is located in              Dapitan City, Zamboanga del Norte;                          just 8 kilometers from the famous Rizal Shrine.

Its distance from Manila or Cebu makes it less popular, but I tell you – it’s all worth it!

There are direct flights to Dipolog City and the resort can meet you with their shuttle to the resort. Dipolog is only less than thirty minutes from Dakak. Dipolog is only less than an hour away from Manila or Cebu by Air.

Peaceful, tranquil and calm

During the Holy Week, when most people are off    from work for some most-awaited vacation, they often choose Boracay which as result, was totally crowded.

But in Dakak when it was also fully-booked, you   will be amazed how spacious the whole place is. The  beach is too wide for all guests and it seems that you are the only checking in!

Dakak is a beach resort and park that covers a total of 15 hectares..yes that large. With this wide territory, you dont have to leave this resort for other activities to do. What’s lacking is a mall – but since we are looking for a getaway, who needs a mall?

Aside from the beach, it has a casino, golf course, swimming pools, souvenier shops, restaraunts and many more. It’s like a little haceinda with well manicured bermuda grass and tall coconut trees. If you have kids, let their energy flow by running around with birds joining them!

picture-155The beach

The beach is of powdery sand and the water               is totally safe and calm. As a mother,                        I was so secured with my son wading in the          waters on his own. It was the first time that                 I was watching my child alone but still                 managed to lay down and relax.

The calmness of the water is due to the fact that Dakak is a cove hence, it is a well-sheltered beach. And at night, it is lit up adding romance in the air during dinner!

Since the beach is very wide, the management placed signage to guide guests to the swimming area and to which part water-sports are done. Yup, you can do sailing, scuba-diving, snorkeling, kayakng amng others in Dakak.

picture-178 Hate the heat? Lined up along the beach front are  shady trees ( I think it’s talisay trees) to protect you from the sun if you dont want to much of it. They have hammocks for you to totally relax and enjoy the scenery.

Service

My husband gave the biggest tip he ever gave to the attendants in Dakak. Most of them are locals and their service is genuine. They make you feel like guests to their own home – polite and well-mannered.

picture-632picture-669

Aside from that, one distinction of Dakak is there security- very tight. Guests can’t come and go. You must make sure your rservation is properly booked or else, you cannot enter the premises. The main gate is far from the main lobby and the rest of the resort.

As a whole, I cant wait to go back to Dakak.  Soul-searching, on honeymoon or simply to find the perfect holiday destination–Dakak is the place!

Villa Igang Beach Resort

Villa Igang

For our Guimaras Island Getaway, I opted to reserve a room in Villa Igang Beach Resort in the town of Nueva Valencia. It was my fourth time in the island and it was my first time to stay in that place; I have stayed in the same resort for my last visits. And I wanted something different – for me and for my friends to stay in Guimaras.

I googled about this resort and I got some nice review especially the comparison between that popular resort where I often stayed. And true to their words, it was perfect choice.

The resort is very small but it gives this homey feeling. I suggest choosing Villa Igang as the place to stay in Guimaras during off-peak like weekdays or not during summer vacation.  When we arrive, they were only few other guests and we even hardly saw each other. In short, it seems that we own the whole resort. And this particular feeling is what most travelers want from any resort.

Another important thing is their service. It felt like a home for us. They were many workers and they are not even the typically hotel and resort staff–gardeners and laborers ( think the resort is expanding) but they were all courteous and very nice. The main staff were very accommodating, letting us get some supplies in their own kitchen in wee hours of the morning!

I highly recommend Villa Igang as one of the resorts to choose and stay in Guimaras. The price is very reasonable, the place is safe, the service is superb and the views are very scenic and picturesque.
