An Ode to my “amigas”

nanette's wedding
With our husbands, boyfriends and Margarette

I was compelled to write this when I attended our dear friend’s wedding last December. For any wedding, it is a very special occasion and truly a memorable one. With her reception in a breathtaking Chateau de Busay, some kilometers uphill from the city; the whole celebration was idyllic.

It is the most wonderful wedding I have attended but most of all, I realized something more important throughout the celebration – the real meaning of a long-lasting friendship.

For us, it was not just to be a part of our friend’s most special day but also a rare occasion to be together and to be finally meet and hang out with new “additions” to our group. Our dear friend Pitch, flew from Manila while on my case, we spent Christmas in our parent’s house to attend Nanette’s wedding. For the first time, I met Cyril’s boyfriend whom she dated for a long time.

We first became friends way back in our second year in high school; we used to be seven in our group and as time flies we lost one friend who preferred to be with other friends, and we are still happy for her. We may lost one but we gained more, now there are two children in our group ( Margarette and Akira) and another two coming within a few months! Lastly, our respective spouses and fiances will become our new boy friends.

I came to realize that I’m not getting any younger, I can still remember how happy we were during our prom nights and during Pitch’s debut…how we changed the name of Joanne to “Manay”…And how we exchanged gifts during my son’s baptism and now, another wedding.

As years pass by we have to wrap another gift for another baby, for another member of our family. Truly in life, there is nothing to do but to keep moving forward and embracing every moment with our loved ones…

You may have many friends but there are only few people in your life who can tap your shoulder when you’re down and say ” hey, I’m here”. And as we grow together bringing in new faces, it feels good that you have more people that you can truly count on.

To Pitch, Manay, Cyril, Nanette and Imbhing –thank you!
